Turn the page...Tuesday

It's time for Turn the Page...Tuesday.
This week I have been devouring Jamie Oliver's latest cookbook titled Jamie at Home; Cook Your Way to the Good Life.
I love this book more than others I've read because it focuses specifically on cooking from the garden. It's full of recipes for every season as well as photos of his garden and the recipes he features.
The photography is crazy beautiful and makes me want to stay outside in the garden all day. I have not actually tried the recipes in his book yet. I've been too enamored by the pictures and the gardening information he adds at the end of each section. In this book he not only tells the best way to eat the food he grows, he gives information about actually growing the food, too.
Here's my favorite passage from the book: "I grew up watching a TV program called The Good Life, about Barbara and Tom, the couple who didn't have much but grew everything themselves. They lived next to the posh couple called Margo and Jerry, who had everything but weren't all that happy. Thinking back, which one of the couples did we all aspire to be? And would it be the same couple these days? My view is that we're all pretty spoiled now as far as luxuries are concerned, but I reckon that the best luxury in life comes from experience ("luxuriance" as a mate of mine recently called it!) and knowledge, and I think food and cooking are among the most important things out there for us to learn about."

Even if you aren't personally interested in cooking or gardening, this book is beautiful, and worth a read. I checked it out from the library, and it's going to be tough to return it.

I'll be back with an update on my own garden adventures soon!

  2. I love.love.love cookbooks. I enjoy cooking too but now I have two many disctractions ;-) for ~real~ cooking. Thankfully Henry is a great eater so I occassionally pull of a fancy meal. I'm headed to the library to check out (literally) this book!

  3. That looks like a good book for me to seek out. I like to cook seasonally. My mom finally gave me Simply in Season which I'm looking forward to using this spring and summer.

  5. That is such a killer cookbook! Not just for the food or the photos, but also because I adore The Good Life, so was tickled pink to see his reference to it! (p.s., you can probably watch episodes online via netflix - it is a hoot!)

  6. Ooh! This is right up my alley! We're starting a 'community' garden with our next door neighbors, and I can't wait for fresh produce, and more time to spend at home at dinnertime! Thanks for the tip!!
