Have you seen this?

I stopped over at Funny Magic this evening and Paige was talking about prom and wine coolers. The Mail Man and I have been watching the 1999 series "Freaks and Geeks" lately, and her mention of prom led me to recommend this series to her.

If you haven't yet seen this I'm now going to highly recommend it.

I really can't tell you how perfect this show is. Considering the only television I usually watch these days comes from Netflix, I tend to watch a few episodes of any given series in one sitting. This usually results in my becoming bored and annoyed by the series and giving up.

Not Freaks and Geeks.

This series is all too hilarious, gut wrenching, and perfect at the same time.
It's about high school.

Lately I've been substitute teaching about once or twice a week. I know. I just heard your collective moan. It's really something to be a sub. Totally different than being a "real" teacher. Over the course of the past few months I've collected some pretty good fodder for blogging. If only I were a comedy writer I would share. Suffice it to say there have been moments of hilarity, pain, discomfort, and recollection. Being there in a classroom that does not hold any significant memories or extensive responsibilities for me gives me a chance to reflect and see things in a different light. Watching Freaks and Geeks at the end of the day gives me the chance to go back to a high school classroom with a whole new viewpoint on reality.

It's funny, funny stuff to hang out with High school kids when you look at it this way.

Just watch Sam strutting his stuff through the halls of the High School in his Parisian Nigh Suit (video above) and you'll know what I mean. This is a pretty good scene, but so far the gym class shower fiasco still has me laughing so hard I might just pee my pants.

  1. Ooo, I'm your first post! :D I adore Freaks and Geeks and was heartbroken when it was cancelled. I first loved it because that was WHEN I was in HS, making it doubly awkward/delicious (oh Lord, the ski jackets we wore and Sam's super cool jumpsuit and the hair and the music!). And also because it's just so brilliant. I love that you TMM (my new acronym for PWB) are loving it!

p.s., did you know that Sam is Sweets on Bones (check it out - Sam all grown up!)??

    xo Brenda

  2. Oh Dear! This something I just might have to start watching. How funny!!

  3. Now I know what to put into queue...

  4. This is one of my all time favorite shows. I LOVE it and have always loved James Franco. He is #1 on my dreamboat list. Tracey and I just rewatched these recently and they are still just as awesome. It kills me at the end when you are just left hanging because they cancel it...why??? :)

    Xoxo. Steph

  5. That is so funny! I've never heard of it ... we don't watch much tv - not b/c we don't want to though! Did you get this on netflix or just rented it somewhere else? We are thinking of joining netflix so we can watch movies when we want to (we are to cheap to get one of those recorders!)

  6. I so miss Freaks and Geeks. Loved that show. (Kind of an earlier version of My So Called Life. Loved that one too.)

It's a shame that all the good shows are canceled and all the "reality" crap is still going strong.

  7. Oh my goodness! I loved Freaks and Geeks and I remember that episode! Too classic! Subbing, huh? Any grade level in particular? I really loved subbing. Come in, no planning, get a little student contact, and then leave it all behind. Dreamy! :) I hope you are enjoying it enough to make it fun! -S
