Artist Trading Cards

Did you ever have a pen pal?

How about an art pal?

Hadley did an Artist Trading Card Swap through Wise Craft and House on Hill Road. I don't know who enjoyed it more! I loved seeing her art and helping her package it up along with her school photo and send it to five new friends. It was equally fun receiving five little letters addressed specifically to her in the mailbox. The art the kids created was so sweet. It got me thinking about elementary school and how much I loved having a pen pal.

Do kids still do this?

The artist trading card pool on flickr (for big people) is full of wonderful inspiration. I'm thinking even I could muster enough creative force to make art on a 2.5"x3.5" surface.

Anyone want to swap? Leave a comment here if you are interested and we'll see if we can come up with a big girl swap!

  1. Okay. Two things.

First: Yes, I will swap with you, unless you get so many responses from those really artsy types that you are overwhelmed.

Two: When I was fourteen, my best friend Emily's older brother found himself between a rock and more marijuana than could be considered a misdemeanor. He went to federal prison, and I became the pen pal of a prison inmate old enough to cause my mother to have the vapors.

  5. Yes! I want to be in a big girl pen pal program! I love sending and getting cards in the "real" mail! When I was little I had a pen pal in Minnesota named Mellisa or Melinda or something like. But since we always were moving as I was growing up, I was always writing to friends in old states that I lived it! I don't know if my cards could be as cute at Hadley's but I'm willing to give it a try! Sign me up!

  10. You're right. It does sound like fun and we can't let the kids be the only ones getting letters in the mail (bills don't count). I would love to participate.
