And the Award Goes to...

Last week my sweet friend Sarah gave me a blog award. Not only was I touched that she thought of me, I loved the way she described my blog and the compliment she paid me. I looked up the origination of the award and found that the blog is in Spanish, so I have no idea how it started or what it means in real life. To me it means someone besides me enjoys this space. That makes me happy. So I'm passing this award on to 5 of you because I like to visit your space. Obviously I love more than 5 blogs, and I love more than 5 of you. I'm also the kind of person who is so competitive that I don't play games or sports because I don't like to lose, so giving an award like this is hard for me, because I think everyone should be a winner. And you are.

Feeding the Big Guy by Holli is a blog about food, politics, learning, and life. I love it because it challenges me to think about things I might try to ignore otherwise (mostly politics). Holli writes with a beautiful, smooth style about things I appreciate. You can't beat her blog for finding a recipe for a yummy treat or a vegetarian meal idea! And if you head over there you can see a lovely photo of the two of us together after her whirlwind trip to Boise this weekend.

Funny Magic by Paige is exactly what the title would suggest. This blog is all about life and magic and the humor and beauty found in the everyday. Paige loves to thrift, knit, sew, garden and play with her two little darlings. And she's just a little bit crass...well maybe sassy is a better word. So we have a lot in common. She's also the first stranger to visit my blog and stay awhile. Now she feels like an old friend and I'm glad she's here.

Books, Yarn, and Other Stuff by Jen
is all about the things Jen is thinking about. She's just started this blog recently and already I love reading about what gets her excited and challenges her. She's working really hard at living with purpose, and she has the most adorable little girl on the planet. (you can see her on Jen's other blog Baby Isha's World)

Pike Schemes by Sara K. and Shawn is really a foodie/travel blog in disguise. No, really Sara writes about all kinds of things! I enjoy her travel and food posts so much. She's always on the go, and you can count on complete reviews of all the great restaurants and historical sights she and her husband Shawn visit. Plus her sister is a chef, so we get to see serious gourmet food posts about her decadent creations . I keep waiting for this pair to show up on a travel/food show on NPR. If you're headed back to D.C. you'll want to give her a ring!

And my last award is going to two people. So really it's two awards. I'm a rule breaker...

My two little sisters. Padobe Kids by Rebby and Cousin Elephant by Lindsay.

Rebecca and her husband are taking on corporate and consumerist America with their life off the grid in Texas. She's tough as nails, I tell you, and I'm dang proud of what they are trying to accomplish. Check out her blog to see photos that will make you want to jump off the grid and go granola. (New photos of little EZRA are up, too! What a stinkin' beauty he is. )

If you want to see the cutest kid in Colorado visit Cousin Elephant for darling photos and gorgeous scenery of the best recreation spots in the Denver area. Lucky ducks, they are, to have such beautiful escapes so close to home. And that baby. Oh, man I love him.

Too bad they're both so far away. I don't think sisters should be allowed to live more than two hours away from each other. It just shouldn't be legal.

The business side of these awards (and what you're supposed to do if you win one):

1. Chose 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogging community.
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog.
3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name of and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.
4. The award winner and one who has given the prize has to show the link of Arte Y Pico blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.
5. Show these rules.

As I said...I'm a rule breaker. If you just want to enjoy your award and skip the rules, I won't be offended. Especially, say, if you're taking care of a new baby in the hospital or something. I just wanted you all to know that I appreciate your blogging efforts, and if you want to pass this on to someone else, please do.

Thanks for blogging! Sharing your world with you makes my life so much more enjoyable.

  1. Thank you, Heather. I'm honored! And I can't wait to check out some of those other blogs you mentioned...

  2. WOWZA!!! We certainly feel pretty special at Pike Schemes for that wonderful honor! THANK YOU!!! -S
