Let me tell you a little about my special day. I have to say that it was the most perfect day possible. Lots of my favorite things all packed in tight and happy. Starting with sleep! I slept in until 8:00 am thanks to my sweet husband, who was exhausted from working many, many hours these past few weeks too. And when I woke at 8am breakfast in bed was quickly delivered.Hot, homemade blueberry muffins, fresh strawberries with homemade whipped cream, thick pepper bacon, and an orange julius. Hadley and I sat on the bed and ate and talked about the book she wrote for me. The one where she says I'm 20 years old and weigh 50 pounds. Now that's a gift. And she also reports that it drives me crazy when the house is messy (but she has no plans to stop making the house messy). Then we opened all the curtains and let the light in as we hung out in bed together and read our respective books. For a long time. And when I emerged from my indulgent book reading session (followed by nap 1 of 2) my house was spotless. S-P-O-T-L-E-S-S! And I almost cried. But I saved that for a little later.
There was a lot of playing and there were many open mouthed kisses and hugs. And a lot of realizing for the millionth time that I'm lucky. Despite all the tired and the cranky and the overwhelmed frustration due to the fact that I can't stay "caught up".....I'm lucky because I'm a Mom. Really that's the gift. Funnily enough when the clerk at Fred Meyer looked at me and said "I hope you have a beautiful Mother's Day", that's when I cried. Because I'm a Mom. And that makes me the luckiest person I know.
And remember that really cool leaning tower planter thing I showed you after we visited Bok Tower Gardens in Florida? Now I have my very own, and that makes me lucky too. Phil bought all the supplies and then took me to the store so I could choose the flowers. And then we spent the rest of the afternoon puttering in the backyard and enjoying all the beautiful growing plants and little people that surround us.
I'm sooo lucky.
