walk-y talk-y

Today is Amelia's first birthday. I'm not sure I can tell you how much we love her. She is really one of the greatest joys of our lives. (Hadley is the other.) Some of my favorite things about Amelia are:

*Her smile. Wrinkle nosed and 8 teeth showing.
*Her John Lennon hair-do. The mohawk has been lying down lately, and now she has a 60's Beetles do. Also very expressive!
*Her monkey walk. Hands up, legs half bent. wild anticipation at reaching her destination.
*Her monkey talk. The child has the gift of gab. We frequently refer to her chipmunk chew out, and now she talks in full nonsensical sentences as well.
*Her flirtatiousness. The child is a tease. She knows just how to get a rise out of all of us, and she does so frequently. While looking us straight in the eye. There is no mistaking her intent.

some stats:

Amelia is 20lbs, she says things like Mama, Dada, bye-bye (once), and calls Hadley, Oadie. she can walk 5 or 6 steps at a time if she wants to. Mostly she crawls. Amelia knows what she wants and she goes for it. There is no convincing or distracting her from her mission. She is opinionated and doggedly determined. Just like some other people in our family. (yikes!) She has 8 teeth in the front and one molar. She can sleep through the night if she wants to. But she doesn't want to. We call her Mo-Go for her mohawk and gopher teeth. But also because she is always on the go. We love hanging out with her. I have the feeling she will be the life of our party for many years to come. Happy Birthday, Amelia. You are loved by many!!
